The colors highlighting the season are illegal to produce in the U.S.
According to Doug Schoon, the chief scientific adviser of the beauty company CND, the colorants in neon polish are not registered with the FDA, a requirement needed for U.S. production. Many of the shades sold in stores are imported from other countries and some are produced illegally.
A few aren’t even neon at all, just really, really bright.
Schoon emphasized that the colorants aren’t harmful, and it is perfectly legal to wear neon polish, no matter where it was produced.
As for me, I’ll stick to bright colors for now. Next on my nail queue is OPI’s Kiss Me On My Tulips.
